Hey everyone! So my name is Megan and I’ve just finished my second year of uni, studying Textiles. I’ve got a close group of friends and we’re quite the outdoorsy type so we tend to spend a lot of our time on the beach surfing and chilling out. I’m so looking forward to spending my Summer in Venezuela; enjoying sunshine thats actually hot, on white sandy beaches, checking out the tropical fish and dolphins with my snorkel permanently stuck to my face and my waterproof camera strapped to my wrist!

I’ve never been to South America before but I have spent some time in Africa and I’m fascinated and so excited to see how they compare. I’m looking forward to learning Spanish and can’t wait to get stuck in! I’ve chosen to extend my flights to stay out for a fortnight longer at the end of placement with two of the other girls, Catherine and Sally. We’ve not decided what we’ll do yet and won’t until we are out there. I do however, really want to visit the Angel Falls and the Orinoco Delta at some point!

Ultimately, I chose to go away with the Leap because I felt that I needed something more out of life. I wanted to broaden my horizons and have fun doing something rewarding and worthwhile before the busy practicalities of life take over when I graduate next year. The Leap I think, offer a sense of security for me travelling alone and they have a personal touch which I think was an important factor. It was a tough decision choosing a destination, I was really keen to go to South America but I was stuck between Ecuador and Venezuela for ages! The heat and the Caribbean beaches of Venezuela are what finally swayed me and I liked the sound of being active and working with and teaching children while I’m out there.

I’d like to say that I’ve been really organised and I’m packed already being that there are only four days to go but, I’ve not actually unpacked from uni (which finished over a month ago – I’ve been too concerned with building a base tan from out unusually sunny weather!) I have about a million piles of clothes, shoes, toiletries, first aid kits and everything i could possibly need while out in South America blocking the path into my bedroom – but I will tackle it today!

This time next week I’ll probably be a delicious shade of red, but until then…… xx
